A FEW WORDS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2010

WHO ARE THE ELDER ANGELIC SPIRITS?

By Pastor Richard Todd

Each group of people at our Christmas Banquet was asked to choose a name for their table. The name that was awarded FIRST PLACE was allowed to go thru the buffet line first. First Place went to the table called SNOPLACE LIKE HOME (table leader was Tim Ramos who works for Disney…figures). Another winner in the top five was ELDER ANGELIC SPIRITS (go figure out who this crowd was).

We delivered the teddy bears you collected to the staff at Royal Court Convalescent Home (next door to Presbyterian Hospital) on Friday afternoon, December 17th. Each teddy bear you gave will be placed on the pillow of a patient early on Christmas morning. I’m so proud of your expressions of love in so many ways to people this Christmas season.

People continue to be drawn from all over the world to the little town of Bethlehem-the place where Christ was born. Although the birth of Jesus Christ took place more than 2,000 years ago, the message of God’s love will go on forever. Join me today at Walkin N the Word at 5:30pm for a special tour of this both ancient and modern city where the amazing events of Christmas began.

I won’t see you as a group until after Christmas unless you join us on Christmas Eve at our Washington Blvd. Conference Center at 6pm.

The Sees Candy you ordered has resulted in $250 being sent to help build a water well in a village in Kenya, Africa (just outside Nairobi). You can get more details in the current issue of our Youth Newsletter (get your copy from Sheri E. or at the Information Center).

We enjoyed a special visit from DOROTHY BENEDICT in worship on December 12th. She lives in Idaho now and would always enjoy a visit from any of her friends in Whittier that are driving up her way.

Several of the Adult Bible Fellowships that meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 here at the Community Center are having a special DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST. Speak with our ABF leader about the details. And yes, the pastors gets invited to all these events.

Larry Williams spoke to us from the perspective of Mary last Sunday with the thought that God requires His children to be submissive. Submission means yielding to His PURPOSES, His PLAN and His PROVISIONS.

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas (I’ll save the New Year stuff till December 26).

You may have heard that I had asked Pastor Manuel Espinosa to share a challenge with us at our Christmas Banquet on December 12th. He had to cancel just hours before because he was in the emergency room of the hospital with his wife. She is home now and recovering.
