A FEW WORDS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING SUNDAY, JANUARY 9th, 2011

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN
CAUGHT RED-HANDED?
By Pastor Richard Todd
for the week beginning 1/9/11

There are some sermon series that never end and that, I think, is good. This is in contrast to some sermons that sometimes seem like they never end. There should always be another message for you from Proverbs and Psalms. All preachers continue to preach on Bible prophecy and marriage and family. I also continue to preach on UNSUNG HEROES OF THE BIBLE which I started some years ago. But recently I have started preaching on BIBLE BAD BOYS (really it is men and women who are not listed in Hebrews because they turned from following God in their life). Who am I talking about? How about King Saul? We tackled him a while back. And then on January 2 we looked at the parallel to Naaman the leper by looking at the servant of the prophet, Elisha which was Gehazi (till he had to quit because of medical reasons, LOL). And I squirmed along with you as I asked HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CAUGHT RED-HANDED IN SOMETHING? Don’t worry if you were not present in the audience because I did not call for the audience to confess. I left it for you to imagine your situation as I recalled mine. So it was with Gehazi when Elisha told him DID NOT MY HEART GO WITH YOU? You can read his account in 2 Kings 5.

Welcome home Patty! Give our own missionary partner, Patty Morris, a Whittier welcome as she is with us just this morning in her brief personal vacation time home in nearby Norwalk, California. She set a little time aside to speak to our Adult Bible Fellowships as well as in our morning worship service.

One of the best youth seminars in our area will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at Biola University. It is simply called TURN YOUR CAMPUS. It is for students and youth sponsors and parents. There are sessions for all of the groups. I know you will be blest if you can attend. See Sheri Elisaldez or contact her at (562) 693-7680.

I will be speaking on the subject of forgiveness in my message to you on Sunday morning, January 23rd. I am calling it FORGIVENESS SUNDAY. Join me as we consider this important topic for all of us maybe just a little more urgently at this time of the New Year.

The JANUARY BIRTHDAY BASH is January 20th at 6:30pm at Sizzler’s at 11835 Imperial Highway in Norwalk. Come. Even June birthdays get to come to the January Birthday Bash! That includes me and I hope you.

How did I celebrate the New Year? Claudia and I celebrated the New Year on New York time and called it a day. If you don’t understand then ask the attenders of the party we were at. Start with Henry Pompa (the really closely shaved headed guy at the Media Center in the back of the auditorium). And I mean CLOSELY SHAVED.

Claudia and I are “out of here” today for the start of our first seven day vacation by ourselves since we said I DO (sort of not counting our honeymoon for several reasons but that’s a story for another day). We will return to the Whittier area next Sunday evening and look forward to seeing you in the days to follow the 16th.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for TK being here with us on January 16th for a special report. Then on January 30th Ed Lewis will be with us. Don’t miss either of these guys.

This could be the year Jesus wraps up history,

Pastor Richard
