A FEW WORDS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING SUNDAY, APRIL 17, 2010
A VERY HAPPY UNBIRTHDAY TO WHO?
By Pastor Richard
One of the gal’s fellowship groups had an “unbirthday celebration” the other day by celebrating someone’s birthday when it wasn’t their birthday. The recipient of all that special attention was my wife, Claudia, whose birthday is not until June 4th. Was she surprised? Of course!
Jewish people will be observing the Passover that begins tomorrow at sundown. I have put together some material that explains a little about the holiday and how you as a follower of Jesus Christ might be able to witness to your Jewish friends during this Passover season. See Oralia Alvarado for a copy today.
We have begun the FINAL PREPARATION phase of getting our new church campus ready so we can begin worship there. There is work we must do before we can begin worship services at 8109 Greenleaf Avenue. Thank you for coming out this past week and helping out. This coming Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday are again the days to just come and help out. Contact the church office for the schedule.
IF YOU DID NOT CHECK THE CHURCH ROSTER ON APRIL 10th, please check it today to make sure we have your name and phone number correct for any and all BIG CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS that we will be making shortly.
As we prepare to move to our new church campus I want to ask you to help me prepare a BIG THANK YOU to Dawn and Susie who have been the main staff here at the Senior Center during our almost two years of meeting here. Oralia Alvarado has a big card for you to sign today. It will on the table at the back of the auditorium as you exit.
I feel great about the services we have planned starting today with Palm Sunday, so if you are wondering if you should make one more phone call, or walk across the office or the cul-de-sac to risk one more invitation, I would cheer you on! Who knows what God might do? Our young people have a special drama for Easter. And Sherry White is working with our kids to present some special music.
Our Easter events for this coming week are as follows:
Friday, April 22 Prayer Breakfast
(go to www.whittierprayer.com for signups)
Sunday, April 24 Sunrise Service at Rose Hills
Sunday, April 24 Easter Sunday (10:45 worship only)
Sunday, May 1 Communion (PM)
How well do you remember what you have just read here? The test is this: How many items did I mention that you can see Oralia Alvarado for today?
Today is one of those days where our church family is having church here in Whittier and a group of us men are at the High Impact Men’s Conference having another service at Forest Home Christian Conference Center. We return this afternoon.
And yes, I am teaching this evening at Walking N the Word. See you there.
God’s best to you
Pastor Richard
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
I SANG THE FIRST SOLO IN
OUR NEW CHURCH AUDITORIUM!!!
One of you announced to a group of us that you had sung the first solo in our new church auditorium this week on one of the volunteer days. The amazing thing is that we haven’t had our first service there yet. Can it be considered the first solo even though we haven’t had our first service? Well, I’m going to think about that. Anyway, since I wasn’t there (now you know I wasn’t the singer) I was told the song title was IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. I am further told that Mando Rios was a witness. Go figure.
